Vicky Garvey

I studied Communications at university in the UK, and, at the time, I was not entirely sure where my career would take me.

What I did know was that I was naturally social, curious, and interested in people. I wanted to work in an environment where I could connect with others, build relationships and understand what motivates them. More than 25 years ago, that led me into recruitment - and I still have the same passion and enthusiasm for the profession today as I did when I started as a Junior Consultant.

My career began as a Graduate Sales Consultant with a London-based publishing house, selling advertising space across corporate magazines, including British Airways. It was a great early training ground. The role built my resilience, commercial confidence, and account management skills, but I quickly realised media sales was not where I wanted to build my career.

My move into recruitment began with Michael Page. After three years in London, I was offered a secondment to Sydney. What was meant to be a two-year move became a lifelong decision.

Establishing myself in a new market, building my own network and earning trust in a fast-growing and competitive sector was both challenging and energising.

Since then, I have always enjoyed the challenge of quickly understanding new sectors, organisations, roles, and talent markets. That variety is one of the parts of the work I value most.

At Dohnt & Co, I work closely with clients and candidates to identify, engage, and assess leaders for important appointments.
